

Jacqueline “Quack” Provosty Avegno, age 98, died Saturday, February 5, 2022. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Beauregard Bernard “Bugs” Avegno. She was the daughter of Judge and Mrs. Michel Provosty (Ruth Loveland Pattison).
Mrs. Avegno is survived by: her son-in-law and only daughter, Mr. & Mrs. Fred Allen VanDenburgh, Jr. (née Micheline Avegno); her two grandchildren, Anabelle Avegno VanDenburgh and Archer Graham VanDenburgh, III; her sister-in-law, Mrs. Michel Olivier Provosty (Deirdre Burke) of Mandeville, LA; her brother-in-law, Mr. William M. Hickey of Midland, TX.; and her numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Mrs. Avegno was a sister of the late Mrs. Charles D. Taylor, Jr. (Ruth “Woogie” Provosty of Pass Christian, MS) and an aunt of the late Charles “Chuck” Michel Taylor and the late David Provosty Taylor. Mrs. Avegno was also a sister of the late Mrs. William M. Hickey (Andrée Provosty) of Midland, TX and the late Mr. Michel Olivier Provosty.
Mrs. Avegno attended Holy Name of Jesus School and graduated from Isidore Newman High School. She attended National Park College in Forest Glen, MD. And graduated from Newcomb College, where she was an active member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. During World War II, Mrs. Avegno volunteered as a nurse’s aide at Charity Hospital and Touro.
During her “debut” year, she was a maid in the courts of the Twelfth Night Revelers and Rex. Mrs. Avegno worked on the Times-Picayune Society desk for about 20 years, where she was Society Editor. She was a member of the Junior League of New Orleans, the Town Gardener’s of the Garden Club of America, the Southern Yacht Club, the New Orleans Lawn and Tennis Club, the New Orleans Country Club, Les Dames de Saint Dominique, Le Petit Salon, and the Orléans Club. She was president of Le Petit Salon and served on the boards of the Lawn Tennis and Orléans Clubs and earlier was in the court of the Southern Yacht Club’s Bards of the Bilges.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday, February 12th, 2022 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home at 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans LA 70121 with visitation starting at 11:00 a.m., followed by a mass at 12:00 noon in the chapel. Interment will be in Metairie Cemetery in the family tomb of Mrs. Avegno’s grandparents, Chief Justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court, Olivier Otis Provosty, and Mrs. Provosty (Euphemie Labatut), and burial will be next to Mrs. Avegno’s late husband.
