Jacqueline “Jackie” Lee Ramond Hemenway, 93, passed away on April 25, 2024 in Mobile, Alabama. She was born on May 31, 1930, in Jackson, Michigan, and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. Mrs. Hemenway was a lifelong Catholic whose faith was central in her life. She and her husband, Warren, were married for 56 years, and they lived an amazing life together. Jackie and Warren raised nine children, putting all of them through Catholic School. Mrs. Hemenway was an avid reader and was widely regarded as a fabulous cook. To her family, Jackie was the Queen of the Hemenways and the keeper of secrets. Jackie opened a po-boy shop in Pascagoula, Mississippi, called The Lunch Box with her friend, Elma Carter, in the 1970s and later ran her own po-boy shop called Po-Boys Plus. After retirement, Jackie and Warren bought a travel trailer and struck out to explore the country, and this kept them busy for almost 10 years. They then settled in Mobile and spent their remaining years enjoying retirement and their grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, Franklin and Leonie Ramond; her stepmother, Minta “Boo” Ramond; her beloved husband, Warren “Honey Bun” Hemenway Jr.; her son, Chet Hemenway; her infant daughter, Lark Lee Hemenway; her sister, Cheryl Courville; her son-in-law, Albert Guy Sledge III; and her infant great-grandson, John Francis Mitchell Donovan Jr. She is survived by her sister, Judy Dufrechou of Metairie, Louisiana, and by her children: Warren and Karen Hemenway III of Pascagoula; Brad and Robin Hemenway of Plaquemine, Louisiana; Ross and Tela Hemenway of Gautier, Mississippi; Lee and Brian Hennessey of Taylors, South Carolina; Lark Sledge of Mobile; Lass and Rocky Hartman of Pascagoula; Shani and Joe Robinson of Draper, Utah; O’Hara and Eric Keszler of Collierville, Tennessee; and by her daughter-in-law, Monika Hemenway of Little Rock, Arkansas. Mrs. Hemenway was blessed with 30 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren and counting.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 10:00 am at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, 724 Camp Street, New Orleans, LA. The interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA 70124.
