

James Philip Goodwyne passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2025 at the age of 89. He was born on October 13, 1936 in New Orleans, Louisiana. After graduating from Behrman High School on the Westbank of New Orleans, he immediately started working and married Carolyn, his sweetheart, in 1956. James taught himself to draft, design and build houses becoming a general contractor and home builder with his wife. He was active in the Annunciation Catholic Church in Kiln, MS and St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Metairie, LA. He was a member of the Sheriff's Posse in St. Bernard Parish riding in Mardi Gras parades. He enjoyed raising horses and cattle, hunting deer on his farm in Poplarville, Mississippi, playing poker, and getting together with family and friends. He also loved traveling with his wife and friends, going on hunting trips in Texas, and living life to the fullest.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Carolyn Leddy Goodwyne; parents, John Joseph Goodwyne and Virgie Bourg Goodwyne; and brother, John Goodwyne.
James is survived by his son, Jeffrey J. Goodwyne (Sherry); daughter, Kimberly Goodwyne Nath (Gabe); grandchildren, Brittany Felps (Glenn), Candace Nath Quinn, Courtney Hoover (Russ), Eric Nath, Travis Goodwyne (Angelle), and Brandon Nath; and ten great-grandchildren: Rowan and Everett Felps, Caroline, Georgia, Eleanor and John Philip "JP" Quinn, Russ, Riley and Reagan Hoover, and Luke Goodwyne.
The family would like to thank Dr. Decoppet and Dr. Creek at Ochsner Hospital for their care.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans, on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. Visitation will begin at 9 AM with a Mass in the chapel following at 10 AM. James will be laid to rest in All Saints Mausoleum immediately after the Mass has concluded.
