John and I had many great times starting in Grade School, he will be missed 

I worked with John for several years in the mid 90's selling cars. My memories of John, are much the same as others. He was a close friend, a great guy to work with, quick on his feet, and had a nimble, quick,strong  mind.  I will always remember a man who was devoted to his children, and his country. An absolute Marine, John was both the kindest man, and the bravest man I ever knew.

We go way back, like way back over 30 years. Even from the beginning you were always a Big Brother to me always looking out for me ALWAYS! We had a lot of good times together & never a dull moment that’s for sure. Whenever I was down & depressed you always knew just what to say or do to snap me out of it.  We have been through a lot together more than most but through it all our friendship bond has gotten stronger & we been through a lot together more then most friends go through a thousand lifetimes. In the end, you have been a better friend than anyone can ask for. The reason I Loved you like a Big Brother was because you treated me like a brother always there, always there to listen, always there to put your foot up my ass to set me straight when I needed it as you never sugar coated anything you were direct & true.  I’m gonna miss our late night talks,  your advice, your friendship, but most of all I’m gonna miss you my brother! I will see you on the other side my brother, but before I go I’m a leave you with this:

May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Dear Paulette and Michael,  Jerry and I are deeply sorry for the passing of your dear son, John. Evertime we spent time with him , John always had a beautiful and kind smile. We feel blessed to have known him and are blessed that he was given the grace to spend time with  his grandchildren Jacelyn and Jaiden. We will always remember your dear son as a kind and gentle man with a beautiful smile and heart. Our love and prayers are with you and all your family. may John rest in peace and may he be surrounded by the grace of our heavenly Father and all our loved ones above.

Our heart breaks for the loss of dear Johnny who always had a heart of gold and a smile to match. He felt things deeply and he loved others with all his heart and soul. 

Johnny left his mark on this earth with his precious children and grandchildren, and we are grateful that he is now in the loving arms of our dear Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 

I was honored that John stood in my wedding ...he and the boys having last minute fun, at my expense, before the ceremony.

A fond memory of John, with his bright smile, and contagious personality that light up a room.

So manny memories with John—one of the fondest was one of our days on the boat with his son.  Teaching him the finer points of fishing strategy then he lands his first fish.  You can see the pride in both but the smiles were because they were together.

So honored to be a part of this and capture the moment.

I had the honor of taking part in the Marion Abramson commencement exercise with Johnny “Z.” After a painstaking 3 hours, the final students were being called to cross the stage and receive their diplomas. There, standing at the end of the processional, which included some 608 Marion Abramson students, was Johnny. With two students left, many began to pickup on the fact that he was the last student and was about to cross the stage. A low roar started to emerge. Upon the calling of his name, many of the student body yelled out “alright John,” “C’mon Zimmer” and pounded with applause. In true Johnny “Z” fashion, he took intentional baby steps with a smile from ear-to-ear, as he knew it was his moment. The slower he walked, the louder it became throughout the Municipal Auditorium. When his hand grabbed Dr. Tournillon’s hand, the house came down. It was then that so many of us realized that it was over - we had officially graduated and the victory party was on!

Thank you, John for just one of many fine memories, while at Abe! You were a great friend and a fine person! Peace and prayers to the family.

Johnny was the kind of person who made everyone feel like he was their best friend.  That's how big of a heart he had.  Johnny had so much love to give.  We were friends for nearly 40 years.  I am grateful for having you a part of my life my friend.

He was preceded in death by his loving grandparents John and Leonie Poulard and his father Milbern Zimmer. 

He is survived by his mother Paulette Molloy, Step-Father Michael Molloy, daughter Jamie (John) Kent, son John D. Zimmer, Jr, sister Suzanne Zimmer, brothers: Michael (Amy) Molloy, Mathew Molloy, grandchildren Jacelyn Kent and Jaiden Kent, aunt Caroline (Donald) Perkins, niece, nephew and many cousins.
