

Mrs. Strauss was an avid lover and collector of antiques since childhood, which she spent in New Orleans. She later owned Jon Antiques on Magazine Street, which she founded in 1984.
She attended Newman School and graduated from Goucher College in Baltimore with a degree in education and child development. She taught in Baltimore Public Schools after graduation.
In the 1970s, Mrs. Strauss served as vice president of the National Council of Jewish Women and helped create Magicland, a program teaching disadvantaged children in New Orleans public schools.
She was formerly an officer of the Southern Eye Bank, a president of the Friends of the Longue Vue and served on the Board of Directors of the Touro Infirmary Foundation for many years.
Mrs. Strauss and her family are members of Temple Sinai. Her great, great grandfather, Michael Frank, was the first president of the temple board.
Survivors include her son, Jeffry Strauss of Denver, and three daughters: Lisa Strauss of Lafayette; Margie Strauss of Atlanta; and Kit Strauss-Reis of Oakland; ten grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
