Known as Joe to friends and as Kirby to family, he was born in New Orleans, LA on December 24, 1940, to Joseph K. Gautreaux, Sr. and Lorraine Wild Gautreaux. After service in the Louisiana National Guard, he worked in the aerospace and computer manufacturing industry until his retirement in early 2000s.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Linda Selhofer Gautreaux, as well as his parents and brother, Lawrence L. Gautreaux. He is survived by his children, Michael Gautreaux (Jo) and Lisa Clulee (Dean), his four grandchildren, Catherine Lyerly (Robert), Madeline Brence (Cameron), Joshua Clulee and Emily Clulee, his sister, Mary Kay Zahn (William), nephew, David Zahn (Shade), and grand-nephew, Fletcher.
He will be remembered for enjoying company of his friends and family, telling very corny jokes, fishing, shooting the breeze and tinkering with various tasks to keep his hands and mind occupied. The family requests that everyone who knew him try to remember his gregarious nature and generous spirit, that is the best memorial of all.
A private family entombment service will be carried out at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Joseph’s memory to the American Heart Association, www.heart.org.
