

Josephine (Josie) Mary Corte Burvant, 95, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025 at Christwood Retirement Community. She was born on June 28, 1929 in New Orleans. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rosaria Tusa Corte and was raised in New Orleans.
Josie graduated from Sophie B. Wright High School in 1946, and from there attended Loyola University, where she studied Biology and received a degree in Medical Technology. She worked for six years as a laboratory technician until she put her career aside to raise her seven children. At the age of 50 she returned to work at Ochsner Meadowcrest Hospital in the hematology laboratory. She retired from Meadowcrest at age 72.
She is survived by her seven children: Robert Burvant (Nancy), Suzanne Senter, M.D. (Bruce, M.D.), John Burvant, M.D. (Jeanne), Lisette West (Paul), Barabara Burvant Deichmann, Andre Burvant (Allison), and Richard Burvant; eighteen grandchildren: Benjamin Hagan, Robert F. Burvant, James Burvant, James Corbett Senter (Ph.D.), Amelia Senter, Bruce Senter, Jr., Brian Burvant, Elizabeth Burvant Stapp, John West, Jennifer West Harding (D.V.M.), Michelle West Eunice, Hannah Deichmann, Kate Deichmann, Alysse Burvant, Katelyn Burvant, Sarah Burvant, Richard Burvant Jr., and Bennett Burvant; eight great grandchildren: Cole Hagan, Derek Hagan, Abby Hagan, Ellie Senter, Matthew West, Nicholas West, Cecelia Harding, and Samuel Eunice.
Josie was preceded in death by her most beloved husband, Dr. Julien Robert Burvant, D.D.S, her brothers Tony, Phillip and Sam, and her sisters Margaret Corte Valenti, Sarah Corte Savoia, Virginia Corte Colletti, and Catherine Corte Spadaro.
Josie was a devout Catholic and steadfast in her prayers for her family, friends, children and grandchildren. Her relationship with Christ was her source of strength and comfort as she struggled through the heartbreaking loss of her husband. She was an active member of the Aurora Garden Club and frequently helped beautify the gardens at St. Andrew the Apostle Church in Algiers. Josie also enjoyed participating as a member of the New Orleans Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO) Chapter H to help advocate for women and provide educational opportunities.

Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral service at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home at 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans at 12 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2025. Visitation will precede from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. A reception will follow at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home.
