

Karyl Kuebel Babst passed away on September 22, 2015. She was blessed with six wonderful daughters – Mary B. Vedros (Rod), Laura B. Chapman (Rod), Kay B. Hunter (Tony), Alice B. Prestia, M.D., Anne B. Griepsma (Jess) and Margaret Babst. Karyl was “Mimi” to her 11 beautiful grandchildren – Lauren E. Triay, Caleb M. Vedros, Adam M. Vedros, Lacy E. Hunter, Hannah G. Vedros, Jacob S. Prestia, Miles F. Prestia, Casey Hunter, Hunter G. Griepsma, Isabella A. Griepsma and Rebekka R. Babst. She was the daughter of the late Omer F. Kuebel, Sr. and Jocelyn C. Kuebel and sister of the late Jocelyn K. Hallaron. She is survived by her brother Omer F. Kuebel, Jr. (Joal) and sister Elissa K. Dozier (Ross) and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and dear friends. Karyl attended St. Matthias Elementary School and graduated from the Academy of the Sacred Heart, class of 1962. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola University in Elementary Education. While at Loyola she was a member of Tri Phi Sorority. During her high school and college years she was a member of the St. Louis Cathedral Choir. She was a teacher for 25 years at the Academy of the Sacred Heart in the Pre and Lower Schools. One of her favorite joys in life was singing and reading to children. She was a member of the Krewe of Iris and loved animals and laughing over coffee with friends. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to noon, with Mass starting at noon. Inurnment will follow in Metairie Cemetery.
