Kathy Schmitt Ferrage

Kathy Schmitt Ferrage, known by many loved ones as “Dear”, passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at the age of 76. Kathy was born on January 19, 1949, in New Orleans, where she resided until Hurricane Katrina, when she then moved to Metairie.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Charles Schmitt and Virginia Pizzitola Schmitt. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, David Ferrage, children, Stacey Maylin Wohlgemuth (Stephen) and Bertrand John Maylin III (Jerri), sister, Karen Schmitt Lecke (Josepha), grandchildren, Jillian Wohlgemuth Martin (Jules, III), Joseph Wohlgemuth (Siara), Cooper Maylin, and Camryn Maylin, great-granddaughter, Ella Rae Martin, as well as many cousins and friends.

Kathy was a proud graduate of the 1966 Class at Cabrini High School and St. Dominic Catholic School. She also attended Southeastern University and Loyola University. She was the Human Resources Specialist at Gibbs Construction for 35+ years. Kathy was a member of the Cleary Golden Age Club, AARP (4924), Back to the 50’s Jamaica Dance Club, and the Rosedale Homemakers. She is a long-time season ticket holder for the New Orleans Saints, an avid Mardi Gras parade attendee, and enjoyed playing cards, shopping, cooking, party planning, decorating, and dancing.

The family would like to thank neighbor and “fairy godmother”, Brandi Barrett, as well as the Gibbs Family and the Gibbs Construction Family for their love and friendship through the years.

Services will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA. Visitation will be held from 10 AM – 12 PM, with a Catholic blessing to begin at 12 PM. Following the service, friends and family are invited to join us for a reception at the Elks Lodge on Cleary Ave. in Metairie.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Cabrini High School Alumnae Association.
