Kirk James Blanchard peacefully passed on to embrace eternal rest on November 29, 2024, at the age of 75. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lorraine Marchand Blanchard, and his father, Lawrence James Blanchard.
Born in Donaldsonville on November 20, 1949, Kirk played football at John Curtis Christian School before attending the University of Southern Mississippi, where he graduated with a degree in biology and chemistry. A grandfather to seven granddaughters and one grandson, Kirk is survived by his three children, Aimee Blanchard Parsons (Alexander), Christopher Kirk Blanchard (Clara), and Julie Blanchard DiGiovanni (August); his former wife and mother to his children, Rozlyn Porretto Blanchard; his grandchildren, Vivienne, Lila, Graham, Emily, Ava, Holland, Elizabeth, and Mallory; and his sisters, Roxanne Blanchard Beard (Michael) and Monica Blanchard Mouchon; and a nephew, Jay Mouchon.
Always eager for adventure and celebration, Kirk inspired in his children a true love of the outdoors, especially summers at the beach and time on the water. He taught them to ski in the ocean and in the mountains, he encouraged them to bravely and independently follow their dreams, he explored new cuisines with them, he taught them to work hard and do good, and he imparted his crawfish-boiling skills on some, and his crawfish-eating skills on the others. Kirk loved nothing more than weekend fishing and frying up his fresh catch for the family.
Later in his life, Kirk tended his vegetable gardens and shared the wealth of his harvests with beloved friends and neighbors in Thibodeaux. Though we will miss him dearly, his spirit lives on in our hearts.
The family would like to thank the staff at Peristyle Residences - Jefferson House for their care.
Visitation will be at 9:30 am with a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am on FRIDAY January 10th at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA 70124. A private Inurnment will be held at a later date.
