

Funeral services will be held for Leonard Tate, age 91, on Monday, February 29, 2016, at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church at 631 State Street in New Orleans. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 11:45 am; mass will begin at noon. Interment will take place immediately following the service at Saint Patrick’s Cemetery #1 at the foot of Canal Street. Mr. Tate passed away peacefully on February 22, 2016.
Born on December 21, 1924 in Ville Platte, Louisiana, Mr. Tate spent his childhood in Eunice, Louisiana. He was a proud resident of New Orleans since 1947. He served his country with honor from 1943-1945 as a member of the United States Army Air Corps. He was a graduate of Tulane University School of Architecture, Class of 1951.
Mr. Tate is survived by his three daughters, Celeste Tate-Mathas (Barry) of Mandeville, LA, Lori Bordelon (Frank) of New Orleans and Marlene Tate-Tower (Bill) of Redding CT, and one son, Christopher Tate of New Orleans, his six grandchildren: Allison Mathas, Emma Tower, Will Tower, Libby Tower, Tate Tower and Frank Bordelon, Jr. (Danielle), and four great grandchildren: Zachary Bordelon, Noah Bordelon, John Paul Bordelon and Aiden Bordelon. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Collier of Eunice, LA and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, the former Elmier Daigle, his parents, Cleophas Tate and the former Marie Soileau, his sisters Ollie Burleigh, Margery Young, Ethel Tate, and brother, Kearney Tate.
As a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mr. Tate was a lector, usher and treasurer of the St. Vincent de Paul chapter. He was also a long time member of the Men of Manresa.
