Leonore Marie Gutierrez Doody Ph.D.

She was born on the second day of February, 1927 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was raised in Metairie, Louisiana and graduated from Metairie high school as its salutatorian. She received a bachelor of science degree in mathematics at Loyola University and then a master of science degree in physics at Tulane university. She went on later in life to earn a PhD degree in education at the University of Houston. She taught calculus and computer science at Loyola University in the late 60’s. She was later employed as a statistician in the oil industry with Shell oil company, Inc. and Chevron Inc. She lived in Louisiana, Connecticut, the Netherlands, Texas and Indonesia at various times.

She was honored with multiple academic awards and society memberships. These are too numerous to mention. Her lifelong dedication to reading, learning and the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church was profound. She visited with the Pope on several occasions and was a frequent visitor to the Vatican.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of many years, Patrick James Doody, her father and mother, Frank Gutierrez and Stella Kern Gutierrez, as well as two of her children, Patrick Thomas Doody M.D. and Leonore (Lori or Lenni) Mara Anne Doody, her older brother John Gutierrez and her older sister Rosemary Gutierrez Twilbeck. She deeply grieved the loss of her unborn son John Doody throughout her life.

She was well loved by all who knew her. There are 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She is survived by two of her sons, Michael Christopher Gerard Doody M.D. /Ph.D., Kevin John Francis Xavier Doody M.D. and their children. Her grandchildren through Patrick and his wife Dian include Kathleen Renee Doody and Patrick Brian Doody. Kathleen’s daughter is Maya Dian Doody. Patrick’s children with his wife Alex are Patrick Thomas Doody, Maeve Olivia Doody and Samantha Evelyn Doody. Michael’s children with his wife Toni include Michael Christopher Doody, Ryan Cameron Doody and Sean Collin Doody. Michael’s children are Michael Christopher Hutton Doody, Caroline Doody and Hank Doody. Cameron ‘s children are Margot Doody and Liles Doody. Sean’s children are Kate Collins Doody, Tripp Doody and Annie Doody. Kevin’s children are Kaitlin Anne Doody and Kevin Patrick Doody. Kaitlin’s daughter with her husband Brandon is Olivia Madeline Jakubowski.

There will be a Memorial Mass at 10:00 AM on January 24th at the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Family and friends will gather at 9:00. Leonore’s beloved niece Stephanie Twilbeck Vedros will lead the rosary at 9:15. Father Robert T. Cooper will preside. Sarah Jane McMahon will sing. Interment at the family tomb in Metairie Cemetery will follow immediately thereafter. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the National Shrine of the Divine Mercy in support of its mission is encouraged.
