Louise Carroll Collins Dabezies passed away on August 5th, 2023 at Poydras Home. Carroll was 86. She faced her illness with tremendous bravery, a very strong will and spirit, deep wisdom and unfailing humor. Illness never deprived her of beauty or feisty personality beloved by so many.
A native New Orleanian, as her family has been for many generations, she is preceded in death by her parents, Louise Morris Carroll Collins and Dr. Conrad G. Collins, Sr.; and her loyal husband of forty-three years, Dr. Oliver Hippolyte Dabezies, Jr., as well as many, many beloved dogs from the streets and parks of New Orleans.
Though she briefly lived in Maryland while accompanying Oliver through his medical career at Walter Reed Military Hospital, she insisted on returning home to New Orleans to raise her family. She graduated from Isadore Newman High School after which she attended Southern Methodist University where she pledged Kappa Kappa Gamma.She attended Sophie B Newcomb College when she returned home to marry Oliver.
Carroll will be remembered by so many for her humor in all situations, her devotion to her family and friends, her joyful spirit, her lovely home opened to all, her ability to always speak her mind and while doing this with quips that were insightful, though colorful and funny. She had an unbelievable ability to entertain, both locally and internationally. She was unique. Carroll was involved in many social and philanthropic organizations throughout her life,yet kept her works for others out of the public eye. She traveled the world with Oliver, always in support of his medical contributions and accomplishments in the field of Ophthalmology, both nationally and internationally. She was an avid tennis player, runner and could often be seen roller skating through Audubon Park.
She is survived by her five children, Louise Carroll Dabezies, Eugenie Barousse Dabezies Trelo, Elizabeth Morris Dabezies Goodyear (Charles Goodyear), Constance Collins Dabezies, Olivier
Clement Dabezies (Kelly Perez); her eight grandchildren, Charles Waterhouse Goodyear III, Adelaide Dabezies Goodyear, Robert Carroll Trelo, Grace Amelie Trelo, Amelie Collins Cooper, William Britton Cooper III, Olivier Clement Dabezies Jr, and Collins Perez Dabezies; as well as her sister, Claudia Collins Fenner; her brother, Conrad G. Collins, Jr. (Beryl); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Memorial service that will be celebrated on Friday, August 18th at 1 pm at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans. Interment will follow at Metairie Cemetery for the family, immediately followed by a reception for friends and relatives of Carroll with her family at Lake Lawn Funeral Home.
In lieu of usual remembrances, donations may be made to Academy of the Sacred Heart in New Orleans, Christ School in Arden, North Carolina, the SPCA of New Orleans, Poydras Home of New Orleans, and Zeus Place Animal Rescue of New Orleans.
