He was preceded in death by his parents, Miguel Angel Vera and Ruth McQuillan Vera; and stepfather, Samuel Ortalano.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lois Arnoult Vera; daughters, Cheryl Vera Cole (Sam) and Karen Vera; son, Michael Vera (Kim); and daughter, Gloria Vera Gibbs (Joe); great grandchildren, Austin Gibbs and Kayla Gibbs; great-great granddaughter, Aubrey Gibbs.
Mike was an employee for Avondale Shipyard for 45 years. He was avid golfer, jogger, marathon runner and loved vacations at the beach with his family. He also was a member of Zeus Carnival Association and the Men’s Club at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church in Metairie. He and his wife were originally residents of Metairie, Louisiana and then retired to Tylertown, Mississippi. They were very involved in the St. Paul Catholic Church in Tylertown.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and a graveside service will follow the mass at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
