

He was a native of Havana, Cuba and a resident of Marrero, LA. He attended the Belen Jesuit High School in Havana and graduated from the Universidad Electromecanica de Belen. In 1963 he escaped the Castro regime and joined his wife and children in New Orleans. He worked in the chemicals’ industry and retired from Beker Industries in 1986. He was a member and past President of the Club Cubano de Profesionales and a parishioner and usher of Visitation of Our Lady Catholic Church.
Marcelino enjoyed model trains, history, mechanics, woodwork, classical music and reading. He also had a passion for telling jokes. By far the most important things to Marcelino were God, his family, and his friends. He was a committed family man and was happiest with his family and friends around him.
Beloved husband of 64 years to the late Minita Melendreras. Son of the late Marcelino Melendreras and Rosario Santamaría. Loving father of Lydia Melendreras and Eduardo Melendreras (Maria). Grandfather of Christina Melendreras Moises (Christopher), Sean Melendreras and Alec Melendreras; his “consuegros” Jorge and Nereyda Migenes and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He will be greatly missed by all.
The family wishes to express our love and gratitude to two very special people: Father Mike Kettenring who was always there to give him spiritual strength up to the very end and Dr. William Rolston, his cardiologist and friend, whom through his medical care and kind treatment helped him enjoy life to the end.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, La 70124, on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 12:00 PM. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Arrangements entrusted to Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home.
