Marcella Bailey Hemstreet

Marcella Bailey Hemstreet was born on August 18, 1928, and passed away on February 5, 2026, at the age of 97. She was preceded in death by her parents, Camille Martinez and Fred Bailey, and her stepfather, John P. Smith. She was also preceded in death by her son, John Michael Hemstreet (Angie).

A New Orleans native, she was a graduate of John McDonogh High School and attended LSU/ She worked briefly for Bell South Telephone before marrying the love of her life, Frank S. Hemstreet, Jr. They were married for 56 years until his death in 2005 and she was a homemaker to their five children.

She is survived by her daughters, Marcia Roome (Doug), Melanie McGuire (Patrick), and Barbara Carey (Dave). She is survived by her son, Frank S. Hemstreet III (Denise). She especially loved her grandchildren, Mike Hemstreet (Amanda), Paul Hemstreet (Candace), Alisha Hemstreet (Brian), Alison Hemstreet, Katye Noel (Chris), Dr. Claude D’Antonio (Shanna), Heather Luquette (Adam), Marcella D’Antonio, Dr. William J. Hippler III (Madeleine); and 14 great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans, on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10 AM with a Mass following in the chapel at 12 PM. Marcella will be laid to rest in Metairie Cemetery immediately after the Mass.
