

Marcelle Barbazan Landry passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at the age of 89. Marcelle is preceded in death by her husband, Edmond Landry Jr. and grandson Daniel Ecklund. She is survived by her children; Michael Edmond Landry (Stephanie), Keith Patrick Landry, Andree Landry Lachney (Floyd Sr.), David Anthony Landry, and Renee Landry Ecklund; grandchildren, Shelby Landry, Carly Landry, Derek Landry, Floyd Lachney Jr., Christopher Lachney, Elizabeth Lachney, Ryan Lachney, and Alex Ecklund; great grandchildren, Brandon, Brooke Bryce and Gillian.
Marcelle was also preceded in death by her parents: Andre A. Barbazan; Jeanne J. Roques and stepfather Oswald C. Capener. Marcelle was a longtime resident of the French Quarter where she began St. Louis Cathedral at 3 years old (Grammar School), Marcelle also lived in Gentilly, New Orleans East and Whitney Place Condominiums in Metairie before moving to Summerfield Retirement Community, a home that she described as “being on a cruise that doesn’t leave the dock”. Marcelle also attended Ursuline Academy (High School), Webster College – St. Louis, MO (B.S. – Dietetics 1945), did an internship in 1946 at Polyclinic Hospital– New York, NY before receiving her M.S. in Nutrition from State University of Iowa – Iowa City, Iowa. Marcelle’s many accomplishments including her work as Dietician at Hotel Dieu and Baptist Hospital, Food Service Manager at Orleans Parish Public Schools, Food Service and Nutrition Department Director at the Louisiana State Department of Education and Assistant Director of Child Nutrition Program for the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Marcelle was also affiliated with the American Dietetics Association, was a member of and served as President of the Louisiana State Dietetics Association and was on the Board of Directors of Foundation Health Services of Louisiana and she was an active member of St. Angela Merici parish for many years. Marcelle loved to do volunteer work, socialize, spend time with her family, and travel with her lifelong friend Mildred Finney. She loved the Saints, LSU and happy hour celebrations with friends that often included wine and martinis with anchovy olives!
