Marco Antonio Pérez Sr.

Marco Antonio Pérez, Sr. peacefully entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the age of 91, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 23, 1935, in San Marcos, Nicaragua, Marco was the beloved son of the late Pablo V. Pérez and Maria Bendaña Pérez. He later emigrated to Louisiana in the 1950s in search of greater opportunity and to further his education. He then met the love of his life and they built a beautiful life that was rooted in faith, family, and perseverance. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose life was marked by steadfast love, quiet dignity, and unwavering faith.

Marco is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ligia Argentina Jarquin Pérez; their daughter, Charlene del Carmen Muñoz and her husband, Richard; and their son, Marco Antonio Pérez Jr. and his wife, Valerie. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michael Muñoz, Thomas Muñoz, Leah Pérez Watkins and her husband, Nigel, and Marco Antonio Pérez III and his fiancée, Elizabeth. He is further survived by his beloved nephew, Roger Jose Bolaños and his wife, Julieta, as well as many other nephews whom he loved dearly, along with numerous extended family members and loved ones who cherished him deeply. Marco was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Roberto, Gloria, Francisco, Luis, and Pablo.

In his 91 years of life, Marco made countless fond memories and found joy in everything, most especially being with his family. Through hard work, sacrifice, and determination, he built a life centered on family and faith, leaving behind a legacy that will live on for generations. In his early years, Marco had a career as an insurance agent, but his favorite title of all came in his later years when he earned the name “Papi,” as he was lovingly known not only by his grandchildren, but by so many others as well. Papi’s love, generosity, sacrifice, and sense of humor made countless others feel like family, too. Papi was truly one of a kind and will be sorely missed by so many. To know Papi was to love Papi, and he truly never met a stranger.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at St. Benilde Church beginning at 11:00 a.m., followed by a Memorial Mass at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place at All Saints Mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery.

Marco Antonio Pérez, Sr. entró pacíficamente en el descanso eterno el sábado 16 de mayo de 2026, a la edad de 91 años, rodeado de su amada familia. Nació el 23 de abril de 1935 en San Marcos, Nicaragua. Marco fue el querido hijo de Pablo V. Pérez y Maria Bendaña Pérez (QEPD). Emigró a Louisiana en la década de 1950 en busca de mejores oportunidades para continuar su educación. Allí conoció al amor de su vida y juntos construyeron una hermosa vida basada en la fe, la familia y la perseverancia. Fue un esposo, padre, abuelo y amigo. Su vida estuvo marcada por un amor inquebrantable, constante humildad y fe inalterable.

A Marco le sobreviven su esposa de 63 años, Ligia Argentina Jarquin Pérez; su hija, Charlene del Carmen Muñoz y su esposo, Richard; y su hijo, Marco Antonio Pérez Jr. y su esposa, Valerie. También le sobreviven sus nietos, Michael Muñoz, Thomas Muñoz, Leah Pérez Watkins y su esposo, Nigel, y Marco Antonio Pérez III y su prometida, Elizabeth. Además, le sobreviven sus queridos sobrinos, Roger José Bolaños y su esposa, Julieta y muchos otros sobrinos a quienes amaba profundamente, junto con numerosos miembros de la familia y seres queridos que lo apreciaron entrañablemente. Sus padres y sus hermanos: Roberto, Gloria, Francisco, Luis y Pablo pasaron a mejor vida antes que él.

En sus 91 años de vida, Marco dejó innumerables recuerdos entrañables. Fue muy feliz, y su felicidad mas grande fue estar con su familia. A través del trabajo arduo, el sacrificio y la determinación, construyó una vida centrada en la familia y la fe, dejando un legado que perdurará por generaciones.

En sus primeros años, Marco tuvo una carrera como agente de seguros, pero su título favorito llegó en sus años posteriores cuando adquirió el nombre de “Papi”, como era conocido cariñosamente no solo por sus nietos, sino también por la mayoría de las personas. El amor, la generosidad, el sacrificio y el sentido del humor de Papi hicieron que innumerables personas también se sintieran parte de la familia. Papi fue verdaderamente único y será profundamente extrañado por muchos.

Conocer a Papi era amar a Papi. Realmente nunca vió a ninguna persona como extraño.

Se invita a familiares y amigos a asistir a la visita el martes 26 de mayo de 2026 en la Iglesia St. Benilde comenzando a las 11:00 a.m., seguida de una Misa a la 1:00 p.m. El entierro tendrá lugar en el Mausoleo All Saints en el Cementerio Metairie.

Es una bendición tenerlo en nuestros recuerdos y un consuelo perdurable para todos los que lo conocieron y lo amaron.
