

Margaret Zimmermann Murphy, age 95, of New Orleans, Louisiana died peacefully on October 27, 2021. She was born in New Orleans on February 4, 1926, the fourth child in a family of seven children of John Antony Zimmermann and Agnes Louise Landry. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, George Andrew Murphy Jr on November 28, 1993. She had four children with her loving husband. Her first son Robert died during childbirth in 1948. She is survived by her children George A. Murphy III MD (Cheryl), Patricia Murphy Ford (Tommy), Charles P. Murphy MD (Cindy). She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her siblings Mary Zimmermann Hansen, Dorothy Zimmermann Hecker, Lucille Zimmermann Griffin, John Zimmermann Jr and Elizabeth Zimmermann. She is survived by her youngest brother Lawrence (Bill) Zimmermann. Margie was blessed to have a large loving Zimmermann family and loved the Zimmermann family holiday celebrations, which included her 21 nieces and nephews. Margie’s life was focused on loving and supporting her family. She was active in the St. Rita Mother’s Club and eventually became a school teacher at Saint Rita School in Harahan. She worked hard to obtain her teaching degree from Dominican College at night while actively teaching at Saint Rita School. She was a devoted, loving wife helping her husband over many years with his health and well-being. The death of her husband on November 28, 1993 was a devastating event for Margie and her grief was forever difficult to overcome. She has battled numerous chronic health problems over the past 28 years. We are now thankful to know she will be joining her beloved husband in eternal peace.
Private interment will be in Metairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please thank a teacher and donate to a charity of donor’s choice.
