Marie Louise Langlois Schramel was born in New Roads, Louisiana on August 5, 1925 to Nathaniel Langlois and Marie Fraering. She passed away peacefully on March 26, 2021. Marie attributed her long life to eating fresh tomatoes daily. She loved to entertain and cook gourmet French meals for her family in her traditional French provincial house. Marie’s love for family ties in with her love of travel, renting a different house in Europe over a span of ten years so her children could come with their spouses and children. She often had a mischievous streak, which certainly makes sense given the nature of her children. Marie was a lover of local art and music, and was an avid supporter of the Louisiana Philharmonic Symphony. She married the love of her life, Dr. Robert Joseph Schramel, who preceded her in death in 2006. Her late husband took pleasure in playing the piano where Marie loved to listen for hours. Her children described her as an amazing and enduring role model, instilling each of them with determination. Marie had a love for French culture, immersing herself in the French language. Her later years were highlighted by a special relationship with her great grandchildren: Louise Marie Carboni, Inez Kathleen Carboni, Natalie Elizabeth Hanbury, and Anne Olivia Hanbury. She is survived by her son Christopher (Jane), son Robert (Caryn), son Michael (Paula), daughter Lisa Knickbocker (Richard), son Gregory (Marjorie), grandchildren Coco, Max (Elizabeth), Madeline Hanbury (Linwood), Nathaniel, Britten Carboni (David), Sophie Knickerbocker, Peter, Isabella, her four great grandchildren, as well as beloved nephews Richard and David Hughes. She will be dearly missed by us all.
