It is with tender hearts and sweet memories that we announce the passing of Marlene Young on May 19, 2024. Marlene was a beacon of love, kindness, and compassion, touching the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Marlene was the cherished wife of Ellis J. Young, Sr., and the devoted mother of Scott G. Young (Karen A. Young) and Ellis J. Young, Jr. (Lina A. Young). She was a loving and proud grandmother to Christopher T. Young, Zoe H. Young, Chase K. Young, and Lexi A. Young. Marlene's warmth and generosity extended to her sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, newly found siblings, (Angela Simmons, Nesbi Saulet, Joan Gibson, Mohammed Abdin, Deborah Brown, Clifford Abdin, Collid “Pete” Abdin), and a wide circle of friends.
Born in New Orleans, Marlene carried the vibrant spirit of her hometown with her throughout her life, even as she later made her home in St. Louis, MO. Her love for music, traveling, and her presence on Facebook allowed her to connect and share joy with family and friends. Marlene never met a stranger; her open heart and welcoming nature made everyone comfortable in affectionately calling her "Ma."
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Audrey Marrero and Martin Coffee, and her sisters, Mathilde “Tiny” Barns and Paulette Hill. Her memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 12:00PM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 10:00AM. The interment will follow the Mass at St. Louis Cemetery No. III. We will celebrate her life with a final gathering at Santa Fe Restaurant, 3201 Esplanade Ave., New Orleans, LA 70119, where her spirit will be remembered, and her love cherished.
In remembrance of Marlene’s life and love, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church & International Shrine of St. Jude, 411 N. Rampart St., New Orleans, LA 70112, www.judeshrine.com
