Marvin Brosset, a beloved father, grandfather, and all-around champion of both ball games and gumbo pots, passed away on September 28, 2025, at the age of 79. A New Year’s Day baby, Marvin entered the world on January 1, 1946, to the late Marielise Sampité Brosset and the late Milton Brosset, starting life with perfect timing.
An All-State athlete at Menard Memorial High School in Alexandria, Louisiana, Marvin went on to shine at ULM, where he earned NAIA All-American honors for three straight years. He set school records for both single-season and career batting averages. With a .400 career average, he swung his way into the ULM Hall of Fame.
Never one to hang up his cleats, “Marvelous Marv” continued to play with OTMAC and the Over 40 Baseball League. He suited up for ICI and the New Orleans Pelicans, proving that his love for the game never aged, only his knees did.
A true country boy, Marvin found thrill in the great outdoors. For him, it was never about the trophy, but the laughter and camaraderie shared amongst his friends.
His family insists he missed his true calling as a chef. He was just as fierce in the kitchen as he was on the field. From treasured family recipes to improvised experiments, he fed the people he loved with equal parts skill and heart.
His proudest titles were “Dad” and “Pops" and "Popie”, leaving behind a legacy of athleticism and encouragement. He is survived by his sister Lisa Kelly Sampité-Brosset (Bill); his three daughters Monica Brosset-Aydogmus; Korey Brosset Gwinn (Robbie) and Kasey Brosset Carriere (Paul), and their mother Dinah Walters Brosset; his ten grandchildren Kaya, Halil, Acelya, and Berk Aydogmus; Kain, Jude, and Reed Gwinn; Kix Paul, Rosemary, and Mignon Carriere; his great-grandson, Demir Aydogmus; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Dianne Brosset.
Upon his arrival to Heaven, Marvin was greeted by an angel, his grandson Christian Louis Carriere.
A Mass of Remembrance will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, October 3, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Metairie, Louisiana, with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m.
A special thank you to the dedicated staff of EJGH, especially the nurses and doctors in the ICU, for their exceptional care and compassion given to Marvin and his family.
We have faith knowing Marvin is reunited with old teammates, hunting buddies and loyal friends, raising a shot of Jäger to toast a life well lived.
