Mathilda R Overall

Mathilda Ramon Overall “Matt”, exact age is a highly guarded state secret, a resident of Baton Rouge, LA; Sarasota, FL, and a native of New Orleans, LA passed away on Thursday, January 21st, 2016. Born and raised in New Orleans, she was the epitome of southern charm and an absolute spitfire who lived for her family, especially her husband Robert Overall (Bob) of 66 years. She attended Eleanor McMain High School and graduated from Louisiana State University where she became a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. Following her graduation from LSU, she went on to become a teacher at the Isidore Newman School until her marriage to Bob in 1949. She was also an active member of P.E.O. A lifelong teacher, she taught her children and grandchildren the wonders of playing with matches, how to drive, and was known to encourage the occasional aggravation between siblings. Her “joie de vivre” extended to everything she did in life from the creation of her own language, “Mattnamese”, to encouraging her grandchildren to give command performances at family gatherings. She was loved and adored by everyone who knew her and she is so terribly missed already. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Bob; son Robert Overall, Jr. and wife Cindy; son Hall Overall and wife Mary; daughter Jeanne Liles and husband Richard; ten grandchildren, Breann Lemoine, Gregory Overall and wife Tricia, Tippy Thomassie and husband Ryan, Robert W. Overall and wife Natalie, Seth Overall, Devon Overall and wife Kristen, Aaron Overall and wife Rachel, Virginia Overall, Chet Overall, and Nelson Liles; eleven, soon to be twelve great grandchildren. Matt was preceded in death by her parents Leonard and Aurora Ramon; brother, Leonard Ramon, Jr.; and son Ramon Towns Overall (Ray). A celebration to remember Matt will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home and Cemetery, New Orleans, LA on Thursday, January 28, 2016. Visitation will begin at 11am until services at 1pm conducted by Rev. Dr. Mollie McGee. Serving as Matt’s pallbearers will be her grandsons.
