Matthew, it’s been 10 years. It still doesn’t feel real. When Sara first told me I buried the impact, but over the years I can’t not think of you almost daily. We’ve been friends since middle school, when I was gone with the military for 4 years I ran across so many games and movies I wanted to share with you. Friends who were almost like you. I wanted to introduce us all. Your house was my first stop when I finally got back, but I was too late.

Before your passing, were you lonely? Did you feel alone? Did you perhaps feel you had no close friends? I don’t know…but these are my hauntings my mind tells me. I’ve ran to you in many fevered dreams, in a full sprint toward you, sitting alone, and hurting. But I could never reach you. I was rageful, my eyes were burry, but our distance didn’t close.

I just wanted you to know, that you are one of my best friends. I wish I was there when it mattered most. I missed you by 6 months..I just hope that somehow, someway, you are made aware of how important you are to me, and everyone else. 

You know they remade one of your favorite games? Silent hill 2, playing it reminded of our game nights. Anyway, perhaps saying this here isn’t handling your absence well…I apologize if this wasn’t a smart thing to post here. But I don’t know anyone who knows you except myself. So I’m doing my best Mat.

Matthew we have been very close friends when we were younger. You and your family have been a very treasured memory of my life and often thought of our times together as we both gone our separate roads in life. You will continue to be one of my most treasured friends and I will see you again in time. 
Sara, I wish my words and wishes can do more for you. Whatever path in life you and your brother take I wish you both the very best and thank you for being apart of my life.

I worked for Ochsner Health System for 37 years and had the pleasure of interacting with Matthew on a number of occasions.  He was the sweetest, most polite person I have ever worked with.
