Mercedes Perez Castillo

Mercedes Perez Castillo passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 5:15 PM at the age of 84. She was born in Villanueva, Honduras, and moved to New Orleans at a young age, where she spent the rest of her life. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Theresa of Ávila Catholic Church until it closed in the summer of 2024. She was a devoted and nurturing soul who found immense joy in caring for her family. She embodied love, resilience, and grace throughout her life. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family were the hallmarks of her character.

Mercedes’ memory will forever be treasured by all who were fortunate to know her. Mercedes’ legacy of love and compassion will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, serving as a beacon of inspiration for generations to come.

Preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Blanca Diaz del Valle; spouse, Luis Alonso Castillo; sisters, Dolores Perez, Carminda Perez, Josefina Perez, and Luz Perez; brother, Manuel Perez; maternal grandparents, Aquilino Santos and Ermeregilda Aguilar; paternal grandparents, Martin Romero and Mercedes Perez; and biological parents, Jesus Perez and Dolores Santos.

Mother of Maribel Comarazamy (Francisco) and Luis Antonio Castillo. Grandmother of Rebecca Comarazamy (Jordan Holmes). Sister of Anabel Diaz del Valle, Roberto Diaz del Valle, Sylvia Hartmann, and Jose Antonio Diaz del Valle (Gwendolyn). She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and many who called her “Tita”.

Our family is profoundly grateful to the wonderful nurses and staff at Our Lady of Wisdom Community Care Center, whose compassion and dedication meant so much to Mercedes and to all of us.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans, on Saturday, March 29, 2025. Visitation will begin at 11 AM Mass to follow at 1 PM. Immediately after the Mass, Mercedes will be laid to rest in Lake Lawn Park.
