

Mildred “Millie” Ayers Deacon, a resident of Riverbend Nursing and Rehab Center, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 11, 2016 from complications associated with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born in Fincastle, Virginia, lived in Newport News, Virginia and New Orleans, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alice Matheny Ayers and John Henry Ayers, and her brother, Charles “Sonny” Leonard Ayers. Millie is survived by her two daughters, Melinda Mills (Brian), and Michele Grenz (Matt). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Samantha Lehrmann (Jeffrey), James Mills, and Larysa Grenz; and her nieces, Cortney Nelli (Tom), Carol O’Pray (David), and Kelley Benedict (Scott).
Millie worked as a medical transcriptionist for Dr. Harris until his retirement. She later worked for Stewart Enterprises at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home for 20 years.
In honor of Millie’s wishes, there will be no funeral. A celebration of her life will be held at Aurora Tennis and Swim Club, 5244 General Meyer Ave. in New Orleans, on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at 2:00PM. Family, friends, employees of Riverbend, Lake Lawn Metairie, and members of Aurora Tennis and Swim Club are all invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
