Mildred Marie Bayer Rolfes, a native of New Orleans, LA, died on Sunday, July 31, 2016. She was 88 years old. Born in New Orleans on June 18, 1928 to John Philip and Maud Nichols Bayer, Millie was the youngest of four children. She studied music at Loyola University. During the Korean War she lived in San Diego, California, while her husband served in the Pacific fleet of the United States Navy, and from 1961 to 1973 lived in Garden City, Long Island, NY, returning to Metairie, LA until July 2012. From July 2012 until the time of her death she was a resident of St. Catherine’s Village, Madison, MS. Loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she is survived by her husband of 66 years, Louis R. Rolfes, children Louis R. Rolfes II (Jeanne Billeaud) of Lafayette, LA, and Holly Rolfes Logue (Henry Logue) of Madison, MS, grandchildren Louis R. Rolfes III (Lindsay Dougherty) of Eldersburg, MD, John T. Rolfes of Lafayette, LA, Katherine C. Logue of Houston, TX and Mary Claire Logue of Madison, MS. Also survived by grandchildren Ellie Logue Malki of Birmingham, AL, Lauren Logue of Nashville, TN and Benjamin Logue of Bossier City, LA and great grandchildren Caroline Elizabeth and Molly Katherine Rolfes of Eldersburg, MD, and Eli, Mary Logue and Jeremiah Malki of Birmingham AL and Alston Logue of Bossier City, LA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers John Philip Bayer, III and Warren R. Bayer, and her sister Dorothy S. Bayer, and infant son Kevin Bayer Rolfes, all of New Orleans, LA. Pallbearers will be Louis Rolfes III, John Rolfes, Henry Logue, Warren Bayer, Jr., Randy Bayer, and James Rolfes. A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at the chapel at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home on Thursday August 4, at 12 pm. with Father Andrew Taormina presiding. The family requests visitation be observed on Thursday August 4, from 10:30 am until time of services at Lake Lawn Metairie, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA. Interment will be at Lake Lawn Metairie Mausoleum.
