Mitchell Drew Smith Sr.

Mitchell Drew Smith Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 1, 2015 at the age of 64. Beloved husband of 32 years to Deborah Gaspard Smith. Loving father to Mitchell D. Smith Jr. (wife Tina), Sebastian N. Smith, Joshua B. Smith, Whitney Smith Aguilar (husband John), and Megan A. Smith. Grandfather of Madison, Sydney, Mitchell III and Ryan. Son of the late Marshall Smith Jr. And Katherine Ann Welch Smith. Brother of Marshall A. Smith III, Mason S. Smith and Matthew E. Smith. A former resident of Lafayette and a resident of St. Bernard parish until 2005. Currently resides in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. He is the owner and operator of Arabi Food Store and Cafe. Mitchell and Debbie run the business that has been in the family since 1973. Mitch had a passion for music and the arts. He was a patron of WYES and the art auctions. A hard working man who had a love of travel, casinos and fine wine and dining. A genuinely kind man to all. Devoted to his beautiful wife and family who adored his dry wit and sense of

humor. The family would like to give special thanks for his wonderful care at MD Anderson, Houston, TX and Canon Hospice, Jefferson, LA. Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie funeral home, 5100 Pontchartrain blvd, on October 9, 2015 from 3-5pm. Memorial service to immediately follow at 5:00pm.
