

Mona Burt Monroe passed away Easter Sunday, March 27,2016. Widow to David Monroe. They were married for 56 years. Sister to William T. Burt III of Baton Rouge and Robert Hampton Burt of Kerrville, Texas. Mother to Monita M. Lonergan (Michael), David B. Monroe (Karen), James Bradford Monroe, and Edie M. Lanner (Steve). Grandmother of Jason, Jack and Laura Lonergan, Rosemary and Sean Monroe, Tifffany McGurk (Danny), Joshua Monroe, and Melissa Lanner. Great grandmother to Liam and Callum McGurk. Aunt to Scott, Eric and Craig Burt, Margaret Daigle, Harry “Joe” Monroe, III and Armand Jonte. Preceded in death by parents, William T. Burt, Jr., Mona Palmer Burt and Mary Alice White Burt. Mrs. Monroe was the daughter of a career army professional and lived in numerous locations including overseas in Germany. She attended high school in Crowley, La. and attended Touro for training as a nurse. Mrs. Monroe was a registered nurse and worked as a pediatric nurse at Ochsner Foundation Hospital for Dr. Fruthalier prior to having her children. She was a member of the Southern Yacht Club, and SALA, (St. Angela Ladies Auxiliary) for many years. She was also a Girl Scout leader. She began painting after her children were grown and was a member of Metairie Art Guild and New Orleans Art Association until her disease prevented her from painting. She was a parishioner of St. Angela Merici Church for 54 years. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Angela Merici on April 5, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. A visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
