I have been teaching for 42 years now and Mona was my principal many years ago. I still to this day tell everyone she was my best principal ever. She was a wonderful person.

I was so saddened to hear of Mona's passing. I can't ever think of a time being in her company when she didn't have the most smiling happy demeanor. She always seemed to be filled with so much happiness and joy, and I know she loved to laugh and recall funny stories about the family from the past. I spent 12 wonderful yrs at Marie Riviere when Mona was there- Her warmth and graciousness was contagious - Upon her retirement, as President of the Parent's Group, we decided she needed a lasting memorial-
So every time a child runs under one of those trees on Riviere's grounds, or a teacher on duty seeks the shade, Mona is there- just like the majestic trees- in all her glory - forever a watchful eye on those she dearly loved the best - the children and her staff.

Mona was my 4th grade teacher at J. C. Ellis Elementary in Metairie.  I distinctly remember sitting in her classroom when the principal came over the PA system to announce that President Kennedy had been shot.  A great teacher from whom I learned a lot.

No words could ease what we truly feel; but with God,we can cherish her memories that death can stealed. Do not only think that she died, but that she lived, and her life gave us memories too beautiful to forget. I will allways have fond memories of Mona, as she was a special person and an adorable cousin. I loved you Mona, and no one can take that away.  My condolences to the whole family. Hector, Mia, and Chris, you all must know how much I loved your Mother.  I've been thinking about all the good times our families shared and going way back.  My favorite Mona story is one I learned from one of her fellow Jeff Parish principals.  He said "Mona's your cousin?  We tease her so much at our meetings. We tell her, Mona you're running that school as if it's a Catholic school.  In fact we named her "Our Lady of Bucktown!"

I am so saddened by the news of Cousin Mona's sudden death. She was so much fun to be around and had a wonderfully infectious laugh. Hector, Mia, Chris, Julie, and Kevin, you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
