

A loving father, grandfather and husband, Norbert Emanuel Schmidt passed away April 3, 2015. He was 85. Norbert, or “Baldy” as he was affectionately known, is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Catherine Dicks Schmidt; children Richard Douglas Schmidt (Lynne), William Tracy Schmidt (Pam), Catherine Schmidt Pitts (Jay), John Hugo Schmidt (Elisabeth); 10 beloved grandchildren; 1 brother Michael Justin Schmidt; 2 sisters Regina Schmidt Nugon, and Anne Schmidt Young; and numerous nieces and nephews, and countless friends. Mr. Schmidt was born in New Orleans and raised in Pass Christian, MS. He graduated from St. Stanislaus College in Bay St. Louis and Tulane University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked for five years for GE before embarking on a 42 year career at Walter Barnes Electric Co. where he served as Vice President. He was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and Christ Church Cathedral and over the years he served as a Sunday School Teacher, Vestry member and Choir member. His passions in life were tennis, travel, reading and writing poetry, and self publishing many memoirs. His greatest joy was taking care of his family and being a trusted and loyal friend.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Friday, April 10, 2015 at 12 pm at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 1031 S Carrollton Ave, New Orleans, LA 70118. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am. Interment will take place at Metairie Cemetery immediately following the services. Donations may be made in Mr. Schmidt’s memory to St. Michael Special School.
