Patti Browne Jennings passed away peacefully on May 9, 2025, at the age of 96. She was born in Gary, Indiana on October 17, 1928, to Sidney Nichol Browne and Lillian Moore Browne. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Robert William Browne, Sidney Edward Browne, and Dorothy Marie Browne, her loving husband Harry E. Jennings, Jr., and her son Robert Allen Jennings. She is survived by her children Beth Jennings Iannazzo (Steve), David Andrew Jennings (Mindy), Cathy Jennings Barreca (Kevin), and by her granddaughter Sydney Barreca Nuccio (Colby).
Patti always insisted she'd had a wonderful life, and that it was a result of her love of music. She never expected to go to college, but was offered a scholarship to Jordan Conservatory of Music in Indianapolis, where she earned a bachelor's degree in voice. When Patti was 19, she was chosen by Metropolitan Opera tenor James Melton to sing a duet with him, which was heard on the radio coast to coast. At the age of 23, she was asked to host a local Indianapolis TV program, which she did. It was at Jordan where she met her future husband Harry, to whom she was married for 50 years, until his death in 2001. They moved to the New Orleans area in 1959. She was a founding member of St. Edward the Confessor Parish, and was active in the Ladies Council, CYO, and the Hilltoppers. She was also a substitute teacher there for many years.
Patti's family would like to thank the staff at Ville Ste. Marie Senior Living, and Peristyle Residences, both in New Orleans, as well as the caregivers at Academy Villas in Tucson, Arizona, which had been her home since September of 2021, and Catalina Hospice of Tucson.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am. Interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider having Masses said at St. Edward the Confessor Church or a donation to the Second Harvest Food Bank of New Orleans.
