Patrick Henry Latour, born on October 23, 1935, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 26th, 2024. Patrick was born on the family farm in Carencro, Louisiana and was the 7th child of Mathilde Clavelle and Fernand Latour of Carencro. As a child, he attended St. Ann’s Elementary School and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1947. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1957 from SLI, currently ULL (University of Louisiana at Lafayette). Immediately following graduation, he began teaching for Orleans Parish Schools, but was then drafted into the Army in 1958 and stationed in France until 1960. After his return home, Patrick graduated from Loyola University in New Orleans with his Master’s Degree in Education. In 1964, while teaching at CJ Colton Junior High, he met the love of his life and future wife of 47 years, Angelin Kikas. They were married on November 21, 1964 until she passed away on February 21, 2012.
Patrick continued working as a guidance counselor at Alcée Fortier High School and Warren Easton High School, where he retired in June 1995. Patrick served as the ACT test coordinator for Warren Easton Charter Senior High School from 1985-2018 even after his retirement. During this time, he was also appointed as the Commissioner in Charge for the Jefferson Parish Voting Polls, Precinct #34. Anywhere Patrick went, someone would remember him either as an educator or the friendly man in charge of the voting polls chatting up all of the neighbors.
Patrick was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral and served as their Director of Sunday School for 9 years until January 2020. He and Angie both loved volunteering to help make the pastries for the Annual Greek Festival and you could always find them both working in the wine booth every year. Even after her passing, he would continue to volunteer and work for the festival with the help of their dear friends. It is only fitting that he passed away on Holy Trinity Sunday during the Greek Festival this year.
Patrick was most proud of his two children and his two beautiful grandchildren. He would talk about them to everyone he met. He found joy going to operas, plays, and musicals, and has passed his love of the arts down to both of his grandchildren. He was passionate about gardening, which was always apparent when people would visit and see his magnificent yard. He enjoyed traveling the world with Angie and their friends and family. He had a special connection to France, and would often visit relatives who still live in Paris, Toulouse, and Franquevielle, where he felt was his home away from home.
Patrick is survived by his two children, Nicole Latour Burvant (Bres) and John Latour (Linda Thomas); his two grandchildren, Colette Embree Burvant and Christian Patrick Bres Burvant; his only sister, Rita Latour Corkin; his baby brother, James “Jimmy” Lee Latour (Linda Latour); and his many nephews, nieces, cousins, and Godchildren.
The funeral service will be held for relatives and friends of the family on Monday June 3, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Greek Orthodox Holy Trinity Cathedral, 1200 Allen Toussaint Blvd. in New Orleans. The traditional Greek luncheon (Makaria) will follow the service. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and the interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral would be appreciated.
