

2014 at the age of 83. He was born in New Orleans, LA on July 25, 1931 and lived most
of his adult life in Arabi, LA. He resided in Picayune, MS since 2006. Beloved husband
of Marion Dickinson Oldenburg for the last 58 years. Loving father of Gair Oldenburg (Robin), Karen Oldenburg O'Neil (Keith) and Sharon Oldenburg Sortina (Chris). Grandfather of Kelly Clark (Timmy), Erik Oldenburg (Leila) and Payge Oldenburg
(Tyler), Michael Saitta (Kristy), Mallory O'Neil, Kailyn O'Neil, Sage Sortina and Cole
Sortina. Great-Grandfather of Tayler Clark, Easton Clark and Landon Saitta. He was the
son of the late Peter Francis Oldenburg, Sr. and Gladys Orthon Oldenburg, brother of the
late Muriel Oldenburg (Robert) Schmidt and Elva Oldenburg (Alfred) Norton. He leaves
behind many nieces, nephews, their spouses, children and grand children. He was a
retired employee of Louisiana Land and Exploration Company and a veteran of the
United States Coast Guard during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Francis T.
Nicholls High School where he was the baseball varsity pitcher, and attended Loyola
University. He was a former member of the Krewe of Carrollton. For many years he
coached baseball at Carolyn Park Playground in Arabi where he was a member of the
Carolyn Park team in the men's softball league of St. Bernard Parish. He was a devout
parishioner of St. Robert Bellarmine Church. He loved sports and was a die-hard fan of
LSU, the Saints and Pelicans. He was well respected in his profession and mentored those
with a hunger to learn. Jokingly nicknamed "Ted" by the neighborhood kids he referred
to as "My Boys", he will always be remembered as the neighborhood Dad whose door was always open, always willing to teach, share, bring, go and do. The qualities he instilled over a lifetime have become his legacy. He will be sadly missed.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 12:00 pm at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124.Visitation will begin at 11:00 am prior to the service. Interment will take place following the service in Metairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, Catholic Charities, and Paralyzed Veterans of America.
