

Rebecca "Becky" Whitmer Aiba passed away at her home on March 14, 2021, at the age of 73. Rebecca was the beloved daughter of Louise Cash Whitmer and the late Herbert Whitmer; sister of Sandra Lineweaver (husband: Price), Barbara Hill (husband: Donald), and the late Sarah Foster (husband: John); loving mother of Joy Aiba (partner: Kyle Remont); former wife of Daniel Aiba; aunt of Will Lineweaver (wife: Claudia), Brian Lineweaver (wife: Kerrie), Sarah Kurapatskie (husband: Brent), Katherine Milano (husband: Robert), Bruce Foster (wife: Kayla), and Alice Caudill (husband: Wayne); and numerous grand-nieces and nephews.
Rebecca was born on September 26, 1947, and was raised in Virginia. In 1969, Becky graduated from Madison College in Harrisonburg, Virginia, where she studied Elementary Education. She then earned her Master's degree in Teaching from Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Virginia. Becky's career as a teacher influenced students all over the world. She taught in many areas of education, including special needs students, English as a second language, and taught other teachers. Her career in education started in Fairfax County, Virginia and then she moved overseas to Germany to teach American military dependents. After marrying, she moved back to the states and taught on base at Ft. Huachuca, Arizona. Travels moved Becky to Japan, where she taught at Tokai University and then again taught American military dependents at Camp Zama, Japan. Her teaching career continued back in the States in Makaha, Hawaii and then in multiple schools in the Denver, Colorado area. She also volunteered, including at a hospital in the Denver area after retiring from teaching. Becky spent the last several years in New Orleans, Louisiana enjoying time with her daughter, Joy.
Becky had a passion for life and was always up for new adventures. She enjoyed traveling the world, and shared many of those experiences with her daughter, Joy. Always on the move, she stayed active by exercising on a regular basis whether it be swimming, speed walking, jumping rope, etc. She had a knack for creativity, always armed with a glue gun and glitter. She added her special touch to a plethora of arts and crafts. Being a people person, she could talk to anyone from children to the elderly to furry friends. Becky’s friends will remember how much compassion she had. She always thought of others first and was there for people in their times of need. Her lovely petite stature was complimented with a humongous heart. Becky will be missed for her caring and kind spirit.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 4:00PM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 2:00PM.
