Born on February 25, 1932 in New Orleans, LA, Bob attended Jesuit High School and later Warren Easton, where he played clarinet and earned a scholarship to Juilliard. Drafted into the Korean War, Bob proudly served the United States Army and held a profound love for his country. Anyone who knew Bob could tell you two things: 1) You were sure to get a laugh, as he loved to tell jokes (and occasionally spread some inspirational wisdom), and 2) He would help absolutely anyone he could. Not wanting to continue in family business endeavors, Biglers Grocery and Biglers Pharmacy, Bob had time to pursue other interests, such as football and baseball, really enjoying umpiring and refereeing games for the local ball clubs and playgrounds. Bob also liked to travel and especially enjoyed the mountains. Naturally, being from New Orleans, Bob was an avid food lover and was always ready to go to a good buffet or just grab a bite. However, he also liked to stay fit, going to the gym five days a week and playing racquetball. Bob also had a love for flying and was ultimately able to pilot a plane. One thing Bob was adamant about was his faith in Jesus Christ; he hardly ever missed weekly church services. He would always say that only through God do things happen and whatever the situation, God’s answer might not be what you want, by certainly what you need.
Bob is survived by his two sons Robert T. Bigler (Robin) and Nicholas G. Bigler, his grandson, his great grandchildren, and great greatgrandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking that a donation is made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
A visitation for Robert will be held Thursday, September 21, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Clement of Rome, 3978 W Esplanade Ave, Metairie, Louisiana, followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 AM, and interment thereafter at All Saints Mausoleum, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, Louisiana 70124.
