Robert Roig Quintana, Jr. passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the age of 87. Known as "Bob" or “Bobby” to friends and "Pops" to his grandchildren, he spent most of his life in New Orleans and Mandeville, LA.
Bob was a proud graduate of the class of 1955 at Jesuit High School in New Orleans and recently celebrated his 70th reunion. Devoted to his faith, he began his post-high school years in formation as a Jesuit before ultimately leaving to start a family. He furthered his education at Spring Hill College, Tulane University, and Loyola University earning three separate Master’s degrees in Philosophy, Social Work, and Education. He taught Latin and Greek at Jesuit High in the early 1960s.
Bob enjoyed 41 years of marriage with his wife, Caroline (“Mimi”), raising their four children in New Orleans. Athletics and competition were central to the family, with running being a particular passion of Bob's. Many memories were created running at City Park with friends and cheering on children and grandchildren at races.
Throughout his life, Bob's Catholic faith was a cornerstone. He was an active parishioner at Resurrection of Our Lord in New Orleans and later at Our Lady of the Lake in Mandeville. He took joy in sharing and teaching his love of God with others including serving as a sponsor for converts to Catholicism in the RCIA program. He deepened his faith through pilgrimages to Israel and Italy and annual retreats at Manresa.
Bob spent 34 years of his career at Family Service of Greater New Orleans including the last 24 serving as Executive Director. He dedicated his life to serving and helping others.
In the early 2000s, Bob's faith was tested as he cared for his wife, Caroline, during her battle with early onset Alzheimer's. For a decade, he lovingly stood by her side as she slowly succumbed to the disease, and he was with her until her passing in February 2012. While Caroline was his first love, he rediscovered love and companionship when he married Paulette (“Gigi”) in December 2021. Bob quickly bonded with Paulette’s family and siblings, coming to love each of them during visits up and down the Gulf Coast. Paulette was truly an “angel” to Bob, as he often shared with his children during check-in calls. She was by his side when he ultimately passed.
Bob enjoyed 87 years of excellent health, and his passing was quick and peaceful. Faith, family, and friends were the cornerstones of his life. His wisdom and the “life lessons” he shared will always be cherished.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert ("Fuzz") and Clara ("Muzz"), and his first wife, Caroline. He is survived by his wife, Paulette, his two daughters Pam (Todd) Masson, Kristin (Bryson) LeRibeus, two sons Robbie (Rachel), Don (Melanie), and their eleven children: Blake, Megan, and Brock Masson; Aidan and Mason LeRibeus; Joshua, Lucy, David, Mary, Owen and Clara Quintana. Through his marriage with Paulette, his family only grew larger with her son Carl (Robin) Garton, two daughters Lynn (Daniel) Hooker, Natalie (Tripp) Ward and their children: James Russell (Lauren) Garton and their daughter Rosalee, Elan Garton; Hannah Kate, Reed, Campbell, and Julia Hooker; Emma and Hampton Ward. He is also survived by his devoted brother Ron and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at 12:00PM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 10:00AM. The interment will follow the Mass at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
