

Roma deLucas Gibson, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend died in her family’s home on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at the age of 99 ½. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wilson Harold Gibson and her cherished parents, Michel George deLucas and Anna Mae McCarthy deLucas. Survivors include her daughters Roma Gibson-King (Charlie), Karen Gibson and Michelle Gibson Bass (Rick-deceased). Roma doted on her grandchildren Michelle Monlezun Wilson (Marlin), Lizette Monlezun Terral (Brett), the late Michael John Monlezun, Pat “Ricky” Bass, MD (Stephanie), Mimi Bass Miller (Scott) and Amy Gibson Robertson. Her great-grandchildren Eric Scott Reimsnyder, Jr., Emily Gibson Reimsnyder, Lauren Elizabeth Terral, Megan André Terral, David Albrecht Terral, Jr., Carson Avery Miller, Wilson Hurst Miller, Beau Gibson Miller, Sumner Farrington Bass and Gibson Louise Bass delighted their “Gram.” Until her death Roma was actively involved in civic and social organizations. She served as the president of the New Orleans Garden Society, Sophie Gumbel Guild, Garden League, and the first President of Freedom Foundation of Valley Forge. She served on the boards of the Orleans Club, the New Orleans Spring Fiesta, the Auxiliary of the Chamber of Commerce, YWCA, Maison Hospitaliere, St. Elizabeth Guild and the Mothers’ Club of the Academy of the Sacred Heart. Roma was chosen as an Honorary Member of the Orleans Club, as a St. Elizabeth Guild’s Volunteer Activist, received the Spirit of 76 Freedom Foundation Award and was an Honorary Life Member of Fine Arts. Hermes celebrated her as the oldest living queen at its 75th anniversary ball. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to a memorial Mass on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Mater Dolorosa Church the corner of South Carrollton Ave. and Plum St. Visitation begins at 11:30 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Notre Dame Hospice, Academy of the Sacred Heart or the Peoples’ Program.
