Rosario (Roy) Paul Caronna, Sr., passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 19, 2023, at the age of 92. He was born October 8, 1930, to Paul A. and Savina C. Caronna. He was totally devoted to his loving wife of 67 years, Mignon Dubuisson Caronna. He attended St. Mary Italian School and graduated in 1947 from St. Aloysius High School. He joined the U. S. Marine Corps Reserves 10th Battalion in 1948; he was honorably discharged in 1952; and was a Member of the Paul E. Boyd Detachment 579 of The Marine Corps League. After his time in the Marines he resumed his job at Whitney National Bank where he continued for 46 years until he retired. While at Whitney National Bank, he attended many banking conferences and made several friends from around the globe. Upon their retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling with their RV through all lower 48 United States and many of the Canadian Provinces with their good friends, Dot and John. He and Mom also enjoyed creating wood-working crafts together and gardening as they both had green thumbs. We all enjoyed our Tuesday Family Night gatherings at his house, his smoked turkeys for all of our holidays or special occasions, and his expertise and help in baking Italian fig cookies. Most recently he enjoyed spending time with his family at the Lakehouse or camping with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Mignon, his son David L. Caronna, Sr., his brother Vincent, and his sister Lee. He is survived by his loving children Roy P. Caronna, Jr. (Wendy), Steven M. Caronna (Deidre), Belinda C. Maddie (Emile), and Maria C. Morales (Kenny); his grandchildren Danielle M. O’Sullivan (Dennis), Chad J. Morales (Alana), Milyn Caronna, Melody Caronna, Stephanie Caronna, Tara Caronna, David L. Caronna, Jr., and Cassie Caronna; his great-grandchildren Cameron Morales, Caden Morales, Riley Mignon O’Sullivan, James K. O’Sullivan, Adrian Peltier, Ezrah Fassbender, Ethan Caronna, Gage, Isabella, Robbie Jenkins, Peyton Jenkins, Kaylee Caronna, Hailey, Amaya, and Kamden; and his brother Paul. He was a very devout Catholic and was a founding parishioner of Our Lady of Divine Providence Parish in Metairie. The family would like to thank Fr. Mike Mitchell and Fr. Andrew Rudmann for their visits in his time of need. The family would also like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of both East Jefferson General Hospital and The Sanctuary at Passages Hospice for their compassionate care. Relatives and friends, and Members of the Paul E. Boyd Detachment 579 are invited to attend a funeral mass on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard, New Orleans, LA 70124.
