My beautiful brother, Ross Alan Gallo, M.D., of New Orleans, Louisiana, took his own precious life at his home in the wee hours of the morning on Memorial Day, 2017. He was 58. He is survived by myself, Catherine Gallo, and numerous cousins. A funeral mass will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans on Saturday, June 10, at 11 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please donate to AutismSpeaks.org.
Ross was always a sweet, loving, gentle soul who never quite fit in. Our family has a long history of autism spectrum disorders, and Ross was afflicted with it. As a result, he had lifelong difficulties with social and personal relationships, and had problems understanding people. In an attempt to deal with that, he became a wonderful psychiatrist, and poured his heart into helping his patients. But in his personal life, he had difficulty maintaining connections, and suffered from feelings of isolation and depression. In the end, although he helped many patients, he was unable to help himself.
In his own words:
“Please let me keep my place in your dreams. Think of whatever good was in me, and let me passed from being into memory.”
He was dearly loved, and will be sorely missed.
