Santo Joseph LoCoco, MD passed away on February 24, 2021 at the age of 90. He was born on December 18, 1930 to the late Ignatius and Nazarena LoCoco in New Orleans. He was educated at McDonough 35 and Warren Easton, and graduated from Loyola and LSU Medical. He served in the U.S. Army as a medic stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso. Santo, who worked as an orthopedic surgeon, pioneered a pediatric orthopedic surgery for children with hip deformities (coxa vara), and his works were published in the Southern Medical Journal and cited in Campbell’s Orthopedics. He was a devout Roman Catholic and a proud Italian who marched in the St. Joseph’s Day parade, honoring his heritage. He erected many St. Joseph altars in honor of his patron saint and namesake. He was also affiliated with the Knights of Columbus and American Legion. He loved traveling and studied almanacs and maps to plan trips that he took with beloved family members of many generations. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Josie Cazaux, and his brother, J.B. LoCoco. He is survived by: his wife of 40 years, Lynn LoCoco; his daughter, Nazarene Adams; his sons, Nat LoCoco (Sherry), Joe LoCoco (Ginny), Santo LoCoco, II (Sharon), Chris LoCoco (Sara), and Mark LoCoco; his grandchildren, Nick LoCoco (Talia), Elizabeth LoCoco, Joey LoCoco, Michael LoCoco, Christine Berger (Dan), Elizabeth Levy (Greg), Lauren Dunshee (Kiel), Santo LoCoco, III (Emily), Julia LoCoco, and Logan LoCoco; his great-grandchildren, Drew LoCoco, Luke LoCoco, Frank Pellerin, Cole Dunshee, Cooper Dunshee, Gianna LoCoco, Leo Wild; and as well as special friends Roger Herring, John Burdette, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 4640 Canal St. New Orleans, LA 70119, on Friday, February 26, 2021 at 2:30 PM. Visitation will begin at 1:30 PM. Interment will be held privately for immediate family only.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Cabrini, Brother Martin, Rummel, or Jesuit in Santo’s name.
