Shirley Krantz Brand passed away peacefully on Friday, September 22, 2023 at the age of 90. She was a native of New Orleans. She moved to Chalmette until Hurricane Katrina, when she relocated to Slidell. Shirley enjoyed talking about cooking and “old times” in the neighborhood. She would ask anyone who visited if they wanted something to eat; she even made sandwiches for transients who rode on the trains near our first home. She and Dad enjoyed going to the Summer Pops. Elvis, Tom Jones, and Engelbert Humperdinck were her favorite performers. She enjoyed watching old movies from the 1940’s and 50’s. Holidays were her favorite time of the year because of her love for cooking, decorating, and spending time with family and friends. She would prepare a feast of delicious food, and all were welcome. Our home was always filled with love and laughter. In the community she never met a stranger and was well loved wherever she went. She had an inseparable bond with her sister Edna Melerine and they shared a lifetime of memories together. She was employed by the Kleine Kinder Daycare Center and cared for the babies in the infant room for several years. She had a pet duck named Godie. She loved birds, squirrels, cats, and especially her dog Poochie.
Beloved wife of 72 years to Charles Albert Brand, Sr. Daughter of the late John Krantz and Mary Cureau Krantz. Loving mother of Dawn Bechtel (Thompson), Charlene Hirstius, and Stephanie Stephens (Ernie) and the late Charles Albert Brand, Jr. She was affectionately known as MawMaw to Trey Bechtel (Chrystalynne) (Trenton, Brooklynn, Beck, Beaux, Kimber), Ernie Stephens (Heather) (Sydney, Maci, Luke, Grace), Jacob Stephens (Karlee) (Maevery, Zayden), Cristen D’ Albor (Andrew) (Logan), Kimmy Carollo (Carlo) (Cooper), and Courtney Stephens, Kaela Brand Trussell (Daniel) and Charles Brand, III. Adoring sister of Edna Melerine. Aunt of Paulie Bertucci (Beverly), Jim, David, and Bruce Bertucci. Sister-in-law of Bonnie Brand.
