Sidney J. Poirrier

Sidney J. Poirrier passed away on November 16, 2023 at the age of 67. He was born on April 18, 1956 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He grew up in Hopedale, Louisiana, where he helped with the family’s oyster leases and shrimping business.

After graduating high school, he began his 38 year career as an engineer/deckhand for Crescent Towing. He showed an interest in antique cars and boats. Most recently he and Carol have resided in Covington, Louisiana, where he was an avid member of Gulf Coast Classic Cruisers. Sidney was always around to help his neighbors or to tell a tale or two about all his years on tugboats on the Mississippi River. He will be very dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carol A. Husser Poirrier; stepdaughter, Beverly Mancuso (Eric); stepson, Ronald Rothermel (Lisa); brother, Gene Poirrier (Marybeth); four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and many very dear friends.

Sidney was preceded in death by his parents, Eugenie D. Poirrier and Raymond Poirrier, Sr; brother, Raymond L. Poirrier, Jr.; and stepson George William Rothermel III.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans, on Friday, November 24, 2023 at 1 PM. Visitation will begin at 11 AM. Sidney will be laid to rest in Lake Lawn Park following the Mass.
