Suzanne Lee Bernard was born November 3, 1952, and passed away at her home on January 4, 2025. She is survived by her companion of 52 years John C. Evans, her sister Jeanne B. Hurty (Charles), two nephews Dr. Charles Hurty, Jr. (Natasha), and Blaine Hurty (Linsay), three grand nephews and two grand nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents Peter L. Bernard, Jr. and Jeanne F. Bernard. She will also be mourned by her neighbors and a host of friends. After ending her fifteen-year career working for a Federal District Court Judge in New Orleans, Sue was free to pursue her hobbies. An avid gardener whose roses won awards, Sue served two terms as Vice-President of the New Orleans Rose Society and created a luxurious garden at her home.
She was a die-hard Saints fan, but above all she loved Mardi Gras and never missed a parade downtown. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society or the Louisiana SPCA.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial service in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans, on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 2 PM. She will be laid to rest in Metairie Cemetery immediately after.
