Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, and Friend.
Sylvia was born in New Orleans, LA to Mary Barrios Carrie and Andreé
Carrie, Sr. She graduated from John McDonough High School in 1953, and then worked at Charity Hospital for 11 years.
Sylvia married Carl J. Chatelain on July 25, 1964 and shortly thereafter, moved to Baton Rouge, LA. It was here where they adopted their two children, Julie and Stephen.
In 1971, the family moved to Corpus Christi, TX, where Carl had taken an executive position with Whataburger, Inc.
She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church for 40 years and was an active member of the Altar Society and Sultans de Baza.
After raising her children, Syl worked part time at Taylor Brothers Jewelers and volunteered at Spohn South Hospital, where she made life-long friends.
Over the years, her most cherished times were spent with family and friends. She was a people person through and through and could spend hours visiting. She travelled extensively in the States and after retirement, cruising and touring the world.
In 2011, Sylvia and Carl moved to Mirador Senior Living, where they made many more friends and loved living there.
She often said her best quality was her sense of humor and ability to laugh at herself. If you knew her, you could hear her infectious laugh right now. She could light up a room. Everyone that met Syl loved her.
She was most proud of her kids and pushed them to pursue their dreams. She instilled confidence in their every move and never wavered in her love.
“Grammy’s” pride and joy were her four grandchildren, Max, Maya, Wyatt, and Willie, and her precious cat, Shanty.
She filled a big space here on Earth and will be dearly missed by all those she leaves behind. Heaven better watch out, because they have one firecracker angel bringing the party of laughter, dancing, and good ol’ scotch old fashions.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her sisters, Audrey Gibbs and Rosemary Roux; brother, Andreé Carrie, Jr.; and parents, Mary Barrios Carrie and Andreé Carrie, Sr.
She is survived by her husband, Carl; children, Julie (Andrew) and Stephen (Kate); grandchildren, Maxwell Goldstein, Maya Goldstein, Wyatt Chatelain, and Willie Chatelain; nephew, R.J. Roux; and niece, Rhonda Roux Cahill.
