

Thelma was born on April 12, 1919 in Pensacola, Florida to Edward Bernard and Mary Louise (Teal) Creighton, Sr. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 59 years, Joseph Vincent Hopkins, Jr., M.D., her brothers, Edward Bernard Creighton, Jr., Harold George Creighton, sisters, Juanita (the late Curtis) and Billie J. (Jack F.) Packer.
She is survived by her sons, Joseph Vincent Hopkins, III, William Thomas (Ann) Hopkins, daughters, Mary Catherine (Molly) (ret. Col. Charles R.) Myers, Martha Elizabeth (William W., Jr.) Burson, Patricia Louise (David S.) Price, Ph.D., and Margaret Ann Hopkins. Thelma is further survived by brothers, Langley (Marjorine) Creighton and Lamar (Libbie) Creighton, sisters, Mary Edna (the late Rev. Robert, Sr.) Ferguson, and Bobbie J. (the late Thomas, Jr.) Harley.
Thelma is also survived by grandchildren, Elisabeth Myers Igo, Lt. Col. John J. Myers, Andrew R. Myers, William W. (Rebecca) Burson, III, Creighton M. Burson, Alexander W. Hopkins and Catherine A. Hopkins. Additionally she is great-grandmother to Sophie C. Igo, Julian D. Igo, William W. Burson, IV, Claire M. Burson, Emma L. Brown, Jacob R. Myers, and Odin A. Myers. There are numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephew, great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
Thelma graduated from Pensacola High School in 1936 and then nursing school in Atlanta, Georgia. She entered the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps as a Lieutenant during World War II serving ultimately in Hawaii following Pearl Harbor. After the war she completed Nurse Anesthetist training at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. It was in New Orleans that she met and married Dr. Joseph Hopkins, Jr., and raised six children. She volunteered with various organizations such as Save Our Cemeteries, Friends of the Cabildo, and Spring Fiesta Association. Additionally, she was a member of the Orleans Club, Medical Auxiliary of Orleans Parish and National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Visitation will be Monday, March 23, 2015 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans. Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery.
