Thomas Samuel Downing

Thomas Samuel Downing, died on Friday, July 10, 2015, at age 71, after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Claire Lottinger Downing and two daughters; Suzan Downing Sclove (Benjamin Sclove) and Claire “Chrissy” Downing Wilson (Peter Wilson) and four grandchildren; Peter “Pierre” Henican Wilson Jr., Christian Ellis Wilson, Noah Louis Sclove and Claire “Lottie” Lottinger Wilson.

He was born in Swedesboro, New Jersey, the son of the late Christine Elwanda Storey and Samuel Cantrell Downing of Anniston, Alabama and the brother of Kathy Downing Carmouche (James Carmouche). He attended Georgia Military Academy and graduated from the University of Alabama. He owned Autos Inc. in New Orleans for over 25 years and was an owner of Carter-Downing Apartments Inc. He also traveled to Latin America as a Defense Contractor. He is a member of the Grand Lodge of Louisiana Masons. He enjoyed swimming with his family, playing golf with his father and his friends and traveling to Latin America. He gave to many children’s organizations over the years.

The family wishes to thank family and friends who called and visited with Tom the past 5 years.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Memorial Service at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations to your favorite children’s charity.
