Dear Mary, I didn't know Tom very well, but from hearing his sister speak at his Funeral, and reading these memories, I can tell he was quite a wonderful person, who was truly loved! It seems like he REALLY made a difference in others' lives! I know your heart is broken, Mary. I cannot relate to losing a husband, but I can relate to loss... And, I know life will be different for you now. As hard as I try, I find it a real struggle to know the right words to say to you. But, please, do not let your heart be troubled. My desire is that you will feel the care, love, and support of others, who will be praying for you. And, I hope that you know that you WILL see Tom again! Let this give you strength and  courage. I read somewhere that, "Walking in blind faith is not for whimps." But, "blind faith" is what will get you through, one day at a time. Faith is the ONLY WAY. Use this little prayer: "Jesus, I trust in YOU. Take care of me." He will, Mary! BELIEVE!

When we were young, and our Dad was a struggling WWII War Vet with LOTS of kids,
 we didn't have much.
  Tommy was always the one who took care of Mom
 because he was the man of the house even as a child, my Dad said.  
There were few store-bought toys. 
 We entertained ourselves and made our own toys.  
 Going to bed at night with no music or TV in the bedrooms,  
just books from the library.  
And there were always thoughts, imaginings, scary monsters in the shadows of the room
 from the recent horror movie seen at the Grand Theater. 
 One day in 1964 when I was 10,  Tommy gave me his old transistor radio. 
He told me I could pick up WTIX and WBOK and I could listen to music wherever I wanted.  
I remember the feeling I got when I could be under my covers, by myself,  and turn on this radio 
and be connected to what was going on out there in the world.
  And the first song that played, I remember, when everyone was asleep, and I turned it on real low, 
 was a tune called "Downtown" by Petula Clark.   
 Then, all the Motown rhythm and blues. 
 It was like  --  that was Tommy.
He wanted to know what was the latest fashion and tasteful way to dress. 
 And he taught me things like how to tie a tie, and what kind of pants looked right with which shirts.  
If he gave me something of his, it was not like a hand-me-down sweater that Mom made me wear. 
 If he gave me something,  it was special,  he would have taken very good care of it,  
and before he gave it to me, he made me understand how I should take care of it.  
I'll always remember Tommy teaching me the way things were supposed to be.  
And the way he made himself be out there participating in life. 
  I imagine in death, he is organizing a hunting party.

Mr.Tom enjoyed life to the fullest. I’ll always remember his smile and kindness  My heart is broken for you Mrs Mary,.. Y’all shared an amazing love- weathering many storms, your love for each other grew ever stronger. I pray the love you shared and all the memories you created- comforts you during this difficult time. 
Steven and Erin- the loss of a parent is so difficult to bare- cherish all the memories y’all shared- my sincere condolences— 
Our prayers are with you, your brother, your family, friends and all those who knew and loved Your Dad.

Remembering all the good  memories with such a great, loving and kind person. You have been an inspiration to Tommy, Tammy, and Kayla (and all the wonderful memories y’all shared together)and to all of us.  I know how much Kayla looked up to you and loved you very much. You and Mary were meant for each other and I’m happy that you both got to spend this chapter of your life with each other. A wonderful friend to so many! Rest In Peace now. To Mary: I’m so sorry to hear the sad news. I know Tom was the love of your life. 

Uncle Paw Paw you always caught the smallest catfish, even though u wouldn’t let us get a picture. Most of my great memories outdoors include u wether it was fishing or hunting. Memories that i will treasure for a lifetime. I will never forget all our adventures and will always love you.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas J. Tobin, Jr. and June Presnell Tobin; and brother, Patrick A. Tobin.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Mary Griffin Tobin; sons, Thomas J. Tobin IV (Tammy) and Steven M. Tobin (Erin); grandchildren, Brooke, Kayla, Matthew and Samantha; siblings, Randall, Gregory (Barbara), Mary-Susan Giardina (Anthony), Michael, Nathan (Cathy) and Russell; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
