Valerie Armbruster Bobear died, at her home of 52 years, on Friday, December 19, 2014 at age 93. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and reared at Creedmoor Plantation in Toca, Louisiana. She received her primary and secondary education in St. Bernard Parish, and a degree in pharmacy from the Loyola School of Pharmacy in New Orleans. Soon after graduation she became the first female head of the Department of Hospital Pharmacy at Charity Hospital of New Orleans, where she accomplished many new changes. She was revered and held in high esteem by all members of the Charity Hospital staff. She retired when she married her husband. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Dr. John Bobear; two nieces, Andrea Gilbert Burks and Carolyn Gilbert O’Neil; two great nieces, Andrea Burks Bumbalough and Carolyn Armbruster O’Neil; two great nephews, John Parker O’Neil and Dane Lee Burks; and two great great nieces, and one great great nephew.
