Verne Miller DiCristina

Verne Miller DiCristina passed away peacefully on Friday, April 30, 2021 at the age of 92 surrounded by her children. Verne grew up in Jennings, LA and was one of 10 children. She met the love of her life, Dr. Casimir DiCristina, at Charity Hospital while she was in nursing school and he was an intern. They were married for 57 years until his death after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents Anna and Ben Miller; brother Ben Miller, Jr.; and sisters Anita Tarver, Rena Truxillo, Meryl Landry, Joyce Davis, Cumalee Domingues, Barbara Reich, and Irma Jones. She is survived by her children Sherolyn Hancock (Randy), Kathy Touchy (Michael), and Casimir DiCristina, Jr.; her grandchildren Rebecca Roos (Chris), Robert Murphy, Jr. (Jeanne), Christina Hayes (Eddy), Kelly Armagnac (Beau), Dr. Michael Touchy (Ashley), and Jennifer, Jessica, and Jamie DiCristina; 17 great-grandchildren; her sister Bernetta Summers (Drew); sister-in-law Martha Miller; and brother-in-law Lynn Domingues.

She was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Dominic Church for many years, and later St. Francis Xavier Church. She was an active member of St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Marians, St. Vincent guild, and Metairie Woman’s Club. She was a volunteer at East Jefferson General Hospital, where she was also a Eucharistic Minister. Her faith and family were most important to her.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass to be held in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124 on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. until Mass. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery. Due to Covid restrictions, masks will be required.
